I imagine that you may likely have stepped away from the "new year, new me" craze. The recent years have really left the illusion of turning over a new leaf behind us, with the unknowns of the world being much more apparent.
For some, that seems to create a bit of despair, a bit of "what's the point?" The promise of a do-over or a clean slate can really help with the feeling of being stuck sometimes. And yet, the calendar telling us that we get to start over hasn't seemed to be potent enough for the restart many of us need.
It reminds me of a conversation I had near the beginning of this particular journey of self discovery about 10 years ago. When things were feeling totally unknown in my future and the overwhelm of the present was clouding my judgement, I said that it felt somewhat like a blackhole. "What if it was just a blank canvas?"
Now, the suggestion in and of itself could not make a difference. I had to be willing to shift my view. I had to have an ember of hope to fan into a flame. I had to believe that trusting in the possibility of that belief was worth it. And if you've got that, consider relating to what's ahead with just a little more possibility than you could muster before. No one else is coming to do it for you, and this life is not a dress rehearsal.
The benefit of times like these is that the illusion that anyone outside of us being the thing that's going to change things for us all but disappears. The grief that comes with it can be daunting, but the freedom on the other side, to know that you are the one to create the life you experience, can remind you of a power that cannot be given or taken.
I am talking about walking in the direction of your dreams with a clarity of spirit, a grit in your step, a malleability to move with detours and changes in weather, a humility to receive support, a gratitude to light the way, and a determination that is your insurance policy that you know you'll never give up on yourself.
This process is individualized in terms of where the path is leading, what is needed along the way, and what your particular process of releasing past habits and beliefs may be. Yet, it is communal in that you are not alone and that the work you take on to know yourself more deeply has a benefit to and an impact on those around you.
So, rather than having an arbitrary day on the calendar tell you that it's time to start over, let's take a look at what starting from where you are and taking a once and for all stand for your life may bring- to you, to your work, to your family, to your community. There are plenty of things about the world around you that you may want to change. What kind of forgiveness, what kind of discipline, what kind of clarity, drive, support would it take? Time to do it. Time to do it from the inside out.
Book a free session with me to talk out what this looks like for you personally. For me, conversations like this are urgent, and I am happy to gift them.
